Bethelview Pharmacy is preparing to offer medical cannabis services in Cumming, GA, subject to required licensing and regulatory approval. Medical cannabis is not currently available for dispensing at Bethelview Pharmacy.

How does medical cannabis access work in Georgia?

Medical cannabis access in Georgia is regulated by the state. Patients cannot simply visit a pharmacy and purchase medical cannabis without meeting the applicable requirements.

A qualified patient must be certified by an eligible Georgia physician and registered with the Georgia Department of Public Health Medical Cannabis Patient Registry. Registered patients and caregivers receive a Medical Cannabis Registry Card that confirms their authorization under Georgia law.

Medical cannabis may then be obtained only through an appropriately licensed dispensing location.

Speak with an eligible Georgia physician

A fully licensed physician whose principal place of practice is in Georgia must determine whether a patient meets the state's requirements and whether certification is medically appropriate.

Complete the patient registry process

When a physician certifies an eligible patient, the required information is submitted to the Georgia Medical Cannabis Patient Registry for review.

Receive your Medical Cannabis Registry Card

Approved patients and caregivers receive a registry card confirming their authorization under Georgia law. Identification and registry status are verified when medical cannabis is dispensed.

Use an authorized dispensing location

Registered patients and caregivers may obtain regulated medical cannabis only through dispensing locations authorized under Georgia law, including appropriately licensed independent pharmacies.

Please note: Bethelview Pharmacy is currently preparing for this service and is not yet licensed to dispense medical cannabis.

Who may qualify for Georgia's Medical Cannabis Patient Registry?

Georgia maintains specific eligibility requirements for patients and caregivers.

An adult patient generally must:

  • Be a Georgia resident
  • Meet the applicable age requirements
  • Have a qualifying medical condition recognized under Georgia law
  • Be evaluated and certified by an eligible Georgia physician
  • Complete the Georgia Medical Cannabis Patient Registry process

Georgia also has provisions for caregivers, including qualifying parents, guardians and designated adults who may assist an eligible registered patient.

A physician’s role is to certify an eligible patient for the registry. Medical cannabis is not accessed through the same conventional prescription process used for most prescription medications.

Eligibility and qualifying-condition requirements can change. Patients should always review the latest information from the Georgia Department of Public Health or discuss their individual circumstances with a qualified Georgia physician.

What should you know before accessing medical cannabis in Georgia?

Medical cannabis remains a highly regulated healthcare product in Georgia. Having general interest in medical cannabis does not by itself authorize possession or purchase.

An active registry card is required

Eligible patients and caregivers must have the required Georgia Medical Cannabis Registry authorization to lawfully access medical cannabis through a licensed dispensing location.

Identity and registry status are verified

A licensed pharmacy dispensing medical cannabis must verify the registered patient's identification and confirm the validity of the patient's registry status before dispensing.

Products are regulated and tested

Medical cannabis products sold through Georgia's regulated program are subject to state requirements, including product labeling and safety testing requirements.

Possession limits apply

Georgia law establishes limits on the amount of THC that a registered patient or caregiver may lawfully possess. Patients should follow the current state requirements at all times.

Smoking is prohibited

Georgia law does not permit medical cannabis to be consumed through smoking or combustion. Additional age restrictions apply to vaporization.

Public consumption is prohibited

Medical cannabis should not be consumed in public places. Patients are responsible for following applicable Georgia laws regarding possession, storage, transportation and use.
